Antioxidants in your skincare : Is it a Must?

Straight to the point, I am now a Mary Kay beauty consultant. Sounds fancy, right? But honestly, since I'm a normal guy, How in the world am i going to 'consult' my customer which are mostly women who obviously used all sorts of makeup and skincare stuff.

That's why I need to really study about these things first. In joining Mary Kay, there will be an online source for increasing the knowledge on all of the products and the brand itself which is great because noobs like me can learn. There are information on what benefits the product can give you with some statistics taken from in-vitro studies and consumer survey. It will also provide information on the key ingredients on the product, how long the product will last and information on how to use the product.

However, I'm not that easily convinced by something I just read. It's not that I don't trust the brand. The brand itself is one of the reasons why I became a beauty consultant. I want some money but I don't want to just sell something that I have no confidence in. For me, it would be hard and a feel like I need to lie in order to sell. I trust Mary Kay. It's a great brand. It's great. The history is great and it has created great products based on what I see so far and from the consumer words that I personally asked. I asked some of Mary Kay consumer first on their satisfaction

Back to the point, I'm actually not easily convinced by some statements that are usually heard. For example, in one of the Mary Kay products that I studied, there are this key ingredients such as Vitamin E and C which are antioxidants which are supposedly said to be good. Is it really though? In the back of my head, I was thinking "Yea, it contains antioxidant? So what?". Does it really improve your skin though? If yes, how? Should you really consider presence of antioxidants in the skincare product that you use?

What did I do next? As I'm kinda a biologist, I went to PubMed. Yea. What. A. Nerd.

And apparently there are strong links between antioxidants and skin health.

This first article that I found stated that (link : https://dx.doi.org/10.1155%2F2012%2F135206)
"The next step is the use of exogenous antioxidants orally or by topical application and interventions in preventing oxidative stress and in enhanced DNA repair"
Which means that basically, you need to have antioxidant in your skincare or at the very least having antioxidant do help in maintaining your great skin health.
It becomes more important in ageing adults as they produce far less antioxidant as they age. That kinda solved another question of mine. I'm actually curious to know why most Mary Kay products that is made for combating aging mostly contains antioxidants. There are more articles that i found that shows improvement in skin condition through application of antioxidants.

So actually antioxidants are these warriors to fight the evil monsters called as reactive oxygen species. They are damaging to most cells in large amount. These monsters are the ones responsible for your wrinkly skin as you age.

Read the review article above for more information because what I shared here is just a very short summary of the whole thing. I will share more about antioxidants tomorrow!
